To further optimize the pre-treatment and forming process for manganese ore smelting and address key industry challenges such as poor formability, insufficient briquette strength, and unstable process parameters, our company successfully completed a 3-ton pilot trial of mixed manganese ore powder briquetting.

The pilot trial was conducted in accordance with industrial production standards. Through multiple rounds of variable adjustment, process testing, and equipment adaptation, the team successfully achieved stable briquette formation. A total of 3 tons of raw material was processed, producing 2.6 tons of qualified briquettes. The results provide a solid technical foundation for the industrial application of manganese ore pretreatment and smelting processes.

Manganese Ore Powder Grinding, Mixing and Briquetting

In this trial, ground manganese ore powder was used as the primary raw material and precisely blended with various additives. A high-pressure briquetting machine was used to produce standard briquettes with a diameter of 30 mm.

During the initial stage of the trial, the technical team focused on solving equipment changeover challenges. Different grinding and changeover conditions were tested for different materials, while a standardized cleaning procedure for the ball mill was systematically developed.

Clear operating procedures and time standards were established, effectively eliminating cross-contamination between materials and improving powder purity consistency. This enabled efficient and accurate equipment changeovers and ensured stable raw material pretreatment.

Optimization of Briquetting Process Parameters

During the briquetting process adjustment stage, the technical team conducted multiple comparative trials to precisely determine the key process parameters for manganese ore powder briquetting.

The trials showed that briquetting pure manganese ore powder without a binder produced unsatisfactory results. The briquettes were loose and lacked sufficient strength to meet the requirements of smelting production.

To overcome this challenge, our company introduced pregelatinized starch as a specialized binder and continuously optimized the binder dosage and forming moisture content. The optimal parameters for both pregelatinized starch addition and forming moisture were ultimately determined.

Under the optimized conditions, the manganese ore powder mixture demonstrated good flowability. The high-pressure briquetting process produced dense, uniform briquettes with good integrity and no significant breakage or cracking. The briquette strength fully met the requirements for use in the pre-treatment stage of manganese ore smelting.

Pilot Trial Provides Reliable Data for Industrial Production

The successful scale-up pilot trial not only established a complete process system covering manganese ore powder grinding, mixing, and briquetting, but also standardized equipment operating procedures and key process parameters.

At the same time, the trial verified the industrial feasibility of the binder dosage, forming moisture, and equipment changeover procedures. The resulting pilot data provides reliable technical support for process design, equipment selection, and commissioning of commercial-scale manganese ore pretreatment production lines.

These results will further support the efficient implementation of manganese ore solid waste utilization, ore pretreatment, and pre-forming processes for smelting applications.
